The mobile C-arm Cios Alpha has won the "iF product design award 2014". In total 3.249 applications entered the competition in 17 different categories. Cios Alpha asserted itself in the category “medicine/health+care”.
Approximately 50 independent experts from all over the world chose the winners of the "iF design awards" in January 2014. However, a nice design is not enough to win the renowed prize. There are strict criteria that are used to rate each contribution. Besides design, degree of innovation, functionality and ergonomics also played an important role.
And this is where Cios Alpha scored: the mobile C-arm can be operated by a remote user interface1 directly from the sterile field at the operating table – this way surgeons are able to operate the system intuitively themselves and hence save precious time. Moreover, positions of the C-arm can be saved so that two projections can be recalled at the touch of a button. Additionally, uniform color coding of brakes and scales facilitate the usability.
Regarding image quality Cios Alpha offers two more advantages: the 30 by 30 centimeter flat detector1 offers surgeons up to 25 percent more anatomical coverage compared to today´s conventional image intensifiers. Furthermore, the 25 kilowatt (kW) generator1 makes the system one of the most powerful mobile C-arm-systems on the market and offers high image quality. A special cooling system1 protects Cios Alpha against overheating and allows it to support long-lasting interventions without compromise.
